Hi Guys. This is Lindsay, your host for the Untethered with Lindsay Tuttle NP podcast, where we go deep on truly becoming untethered in your life and health and experiencing exponential freedom. We have the radical and uncensored conversations you have been craving and give you the tools for expansion and growth. I’m so glad that you are here and I can’t wait to connect with you.
Hey Guys. I am really excited about this podcast episode. It really was something that I knew had to be its own standalone solo episode. And I just, you know, want to be able to always be so real, so honest about this process; this journey becoming untethered. And that’s why, you know, the first two episodes that were recorded for this podcast were really my story from being so ill and sick, to being able to reclaim my life again and the process of that, which I mean, we’re always in right? Like, it’s a continuous journey, continuous unraveling. And, you know, interestingly, I think maybe a week or two after I recorded those episodes, I actually went through a flare up or how I like to call it like a healing wave or some know it as a healing crisis, with my body and it was just so insightful.
And also so incredible to get the insight and the actualization of how far I’ve come and also was just another stepping stone in my healing journey. And I just knew because I had already planned that this episode would be a solo episode and I wasn’t sure where I was going to go with it. But, I, you know, I am so unscripted with these guys. Like I have to feel the inspiration. And I just knew that I wanted to share with you guys about this recent experience and be able to share what I learned from it and why experiencing discomfort is absolutely necessary for healing. I’m going to say it again. Let’s just sit with it. Just kind of marinate with it.
But discomfort is absolutely necessary for healing. And unfortunately, we are taught our entire lives something different. And, you know, I just finished reading the book Dopamine Nation and it was really diving into kind of the unhealthy relationship that many of us have with pleasure, as far as just lack of balance within pain, pleasure. And it was thinking of how literally we suggest to people that they should always, always be happy and they should always, you know, if they’re healthy and whole that they don’t feel and experience any discomfort. And none of that could be farther from the truth like that is a necessary component of the human experience. Going through sickness, going through grief, going through anger; like this is actually really important for our body’s resiliency, our nervous system.
And so I knew that today I really wanted to talk about this recent experience and I just know, even if you’re somebody who is not going through a health issue, maybe somebody that is like, you know, I don’t even deal with flare ups, I’m not totally sure what that is. You still need this episode. Okay, so don’t press pause. I want you to play forward friend because you’re going to get some really good info from this. I always want to be able to give you some tangible takeaways, just from different experiences, right? Because that’s how we learn. That’s how we grow and I’m in that phase all the time.
So, you know, I’ve gone through flare ups and these different waves within healing before. If you’re familiar with kind of the more natural or holistic way of healing, you know, that’s something that’s often said is that healing is not linear. And it’s funner to say than to actually experience! Because when you’re in the season of life where it’s like can feel like two steps forward and ten steps back, you’re like WTF. This is not my jam. But I want to tell you, that that is what we mean what we’re saying healing is not linear. And I love that this is being talked about more and more in the health space because when people actually go through a, a healing on even like a spiritual level, like an awakening, where you’re finally like connecting to these parts of yourself that you forgot about, or you didn’t even know were there. That’s tiring.
Like I’d love to normalize that in the conversation. That’s really tiring. And I remember last year, I had this awareness in 2022 that my life was going to be completely different. I had my third child Atlas. Atlas Valor, he is just such a beam of joy, such a personality. He’s my Aquarius. I’m an Aquarius, um, Aquarius Sun, Aquarius Rising. Such a personality. Um, and then a Pisces Moon. So that rounds me out. Uh, Atlas is an Aquarius, uh, Sun and then a Virgo Rising, which my husband’s a Virgo Sun. And then he is a Sagittarius Moon. Um, and so… You know, very interesting with that experience. I just had this awareness.
And if you’ve had a baby before, you know, this is true. Like an element of you changes. You are not the same. You can not be the same person after you have that child. And I was reading recently about how our brain changes after having a child. You know, people have said, venture to say, you know, a couple years, you know, all that. I read something sharing how it was 25 years. It was either 25 or 27 years later. I’ll find the study and I’ll put it in the show notes. Mom’s brain has changed. That many years later, like I was just blown away because I think so much of this still has not been researched or dug into. And of course, it’s definitely not on the news or presented to women, uh, especially, you know, I think our society is so narrow minded when it comes to the birth experience and women empowerment through birth and what is a divine feminine experience.
But beyond that, before I get off my tangent here. Beyond that, I knew when I was having Atlas that this was going to be a completely different experience and I had this awareness that I was going to be releasing a lot of things in my life and that’s been my theme of 2023. I’ve released different businesses, I’ve released different literal anchors in my life that I felt like we’re keeping me on a sinking ship, um, when it came to relationships. I mean, you name it. I felt like this has been the year that I was like, I’m decluttering. I’m decluttering and it feels so damn good.
But I will tell you the year before this, when I had Atlas, I had this awareness that this was going to be, my life was going to radically change. And that it was going to be a bit harder before it got better. So I had that awareness with him. And it was this awareness that I was up for a wild ride. And that certainly was what it was because I could feel my opinions changing on things. I could feel my energy shifting on things. I think any single person who lived through 2020 has an element of grief and depression and anxiety that maybe wasn’t present before for her, that was a really… rough season as a collective as a collective. We went through such a challenging time of not knowing what the hell was going to happen next, right? Like we were on the edge of our seat pretty regularly.
And at the time, you know, we were living in Colorado at the beginning of 2020. And I just, you know, I was pretty close to Denver and there was just so much going on. There was never a sense of safety or security, um, which was really unnerving. And I know many of you listening experience the very same thing. And so, you know, it was like having Atlas in Idaho. He was my second home birth. Uh, I’ll link the birth video I have in the show notes. It is one of my most sacred belongings because I didn’t go with a birth photographer, but my doula arrived like at the last minute, maybe a couple minutes before I had Atlas, and she was able to catch that portion of my birth on video. And it is, it is sacred to me, and I, I’m excited for you to experience it.
But I went into that birth, I had a very rough pregnancy, was still dealing with some chronic fatigue and mast cell issues. And I just knew I had to completely change my life. I just was kind of at this point, I’ve been doing a lot of nervous system regulation work, for chronic fatigue, Lyme issues, mast cell issues. I had seen up and down, um, progression of that. And in the postpartum period, uh, I did experience some of that, but I really became very dedicated to the work. And I also started incorporating somatic experiencing into my work, um, which is something that I incorporate with my mind, body, spirit release clients. Anybody who works with me with one on one coaching knows I’m very passionate about somatic work. It was really a missing piece for me. And so I love being able to help clients with it.
But, with that, I definitely just started experiencing life a completely different way. And I started just becoming more aware of a lot of the patterns I had. That I would say is the first part of the healing journey that often does not get acknowledged is when you start having awareness of like, oh, this is what’s actually keeping me sick and stuck, right? You know, it’s easy to point to different protocols. You know, take your magnesium, do this, you know, but really self reflection and self awareness is where it all begins, right? And understanding the patterns that you are continuing to engage in that are 100 percent keeping you stuck.
And so that was that year, like, of having Atlas and just knowing, okay, like, oh, I’m really getting aware and I almost found myself in a place of just, I would say a little bit of a depression, not a postpartum depression. It’s just like a tiredness and a draining because you are really uncovering deep stuff and you’re starting to become that much more aware. And so that was really big. It was really big for, for me in that year. And I found myself just, I could totally tell where I wasn’t aligned in my life. I wound up hiring a business coach in September 2022, ’cause I really felt like I was not aligned in just my, my business life. There was a lot that was changing around that time. We were finishing building a house which was one of the very stressful events of the last five years of my life. Not as, I mean, that’s a whole story, but you know, it was one of those things that there was a lot of stress and there was this awareness of, I, no longer want to operate out of a place of stress.
And I’d really been working on that with brain health and I really wanted to bring that into business. I wanted to bring it into doing what I felt I was purposed to do and helping women and families. And so, you know, it was during that time that I just really, like I said, started having this awareness and it was very much a touch and go of having periods of time of just grieving or tiredness. Or just feeling like kind of a rise in symptoms as my body was unraveling.
And I want to highlight this because when you actually start doing this deeper work and your body’s unraveling, you’re going to experience some symptoms again. You’re going to be experiencing emotions and patterns that you’re like, you know, F this I thought I was done with experiencing this. And then you start experiencing it again, and it can be very triggering. And something that I have learned with coming to the healing journey is that healing will require you to visit old containers over and over again as a new person. Until you pass the test you will continue to revisit the old container. Because your body is asking you, are you going to show up the way that you always were showing up or are you going to show up the way I need you to show up, right?
It’s building this kind of self trust. And you know, this is a whole other conversation because I really believe this is very connected to like, the soul and on a soul level, are we, are we building that trust? But you know, with that experience of going into like that year and unraveling, I just found myself sometimes having old symptoms revisit, but then I had a different approach because I knew like, okay, I know this is actually part of healing, so I’m just going to have to ride it out. And that was the shift because what we are so conditioned to do within our society is resist and fight back and treat, right? Like the symptom is seen as the problem rather than the solution.
And what I want to invite you to consider today is the symptom is the solution because it’s telling you exactly what you need. It’s like, you know, it’s like a flashlight right on like, this is what you need, hello, I’m here. I also want to mention, you know, symptoms are a late sign of a disease or dis-ease of the body process, right? So typically symptoms really only present themselves at least 50 percent into a disease process. So, when I was experiencing the shifts, I just had this awareness that, you know, I just needed to buckle up, you know, buckle up for the ride.
And going into 2023, a lot of themes that were coming up were the presence of, like I just said, I’d have to visit old containers in my life, relationships, business, like different things as a new person. And I’d have to go through those motions. And then there was also this realization of knowing that I needed to declutter so that I would become aligned and really step into the healed version of myself, which is who we are. You know, we’re all heal like the organic self is a healed version of ourselves. It’s just revisiting that and connecting back to that and, you know, you’re not the problem, you’re the solution, right?
So I had this awareness that, that was going to be part of my journey and I truly believe that and this is something I focus on with my recalibration method that I use with just how I approach working with clients, is that illness arises or any sort of disconnect within our being from lack of alignment. When we’re not in alignment in our life, when we are operating out of primed patterns that are generational miasms, things that are from our childhood, we’re not in alignment. And that will show up physically at some point, it will for for everybody. And if it doesn’t show up in this generation, it will show up in the next generation, because that is what we know through research to be the case. We know and have the studies to show that parents, men, that experienced trauma in their childhood, it was like 90 percent of their offspring dealt with a autoimmune condition. And with moms, similarly, their offspring had a higher incidence of anxiety.
So we know that there’s a connection here and it can be easier to point at, you know, some of the things that are just more tangible, right? Like, well, you know, there’s this imbalance in your lab work or there’s this mineral deficiency, but what’s even deeper than that, that is causing for the imbalance to take root, right? I’m going to tell you this much. If you’ve ever visited a third world country, I can tell you those people. I mean, I always come back to my memories of I did medical missions in Haiti shortly after the earthquake that they experienced, I believe this was in the beginning of 2010 and I’m going to tell you this much. These people have literally nothing. And that’s kind of, you know, a theme in third world countries. They’re very little, and yet they are the least stressed people that you will ever meet.
I can tell you this too. You do not find that these people are dealing with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or Mass Cell Activation Syndrome, or Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome, or the other 1, 000 billion names that are always increasing here in the United States for different health problems.
Okay, guys, I’m so stoked to talk with you about one of my favorite things ever, and that is my King Organo coffee. I am obsessed with this coffee. I’ve been drinking it for about four or five years now, and it is a coffee that is good for you. It is one of those things that I tell people, if you love coffee, you need to be drinking King.
It is tested, tested for heavy metals, tested for mold. It is a clean organic coffee that just won’t make you feel super jittery or on edge after taking it. It has the most amazing, rich, bold taste. I’m obsessed and my husband is obsessed, which is saying something because we totally are coffee snobs. I am not afraid to say it. We are such coffee snobs and this King coffee is just the best. It’s an organic coffee with reishi spores. And if you’re not familiar with reishi, guys, this has been used for thousands of years for its immune boosting benefits.
It’s really hard to find a coffee out there that has reishi at such an incredible dose. I mean, the spores that are in the King coffee retain all of the same immune and health benefits as if you were to get the seeds of the spore powder. And so you’re getting 17 to 18 times the strength and potency and you’re getting all the bioavailable nutrients. It’s absolutely incredible.
And so things that are, that you can notice from being able to get the benefits of Reishi, especially with King is just that immune system boost. You don’t feel any of that caffeine spike or jitters. It’s actually really amazing for blood sugar regulation. It’s just not as acidic. There’s no cortisol spike that you’re going to get from it. There’s no crash that you’re going to get from taking it. And Reishi, guys, is just an incredible biofilm buster. And so that is something that is just amazing to be taking and having on hand. You’re working through cleansing as well. And so it is a really high quality coffee and something that we just love to have in our home. As I said, I take it, my husband takes it, and I’m going to link for you guys in the show notes.
And on my website, you can find it under brands. I love, you can grab your own set of King coffee to try at home. I also really like the Royal, which is another, uh, brand that Organo has that has the lion’s mane in it, which is amazing for your nervous system health and your cognitive health and also really great for the immune system. So make sure to go check it out. If you are looking for a really great tasting, clean coffee, this is it.
So at some point in time, we have to actually look a little bit deeper and acknowledge, are the solutions that we present actually part of the problem? And that’s a whole other conversation. But, you know, I will tell you, I always go back to that experience and thinking how simply these people lived and how literally they were connected in community and joy like their primary task, I would say in their day was to find joy and to just smile and to just experience happiness amongst the troubles, you know. And it always resonated with me because I was like, you know what that’s actually health, you know that’s a different caliber of health that, dang, I’m coming here on medical missions. You know with medical missions I would always leave with an aspect of my being actually healed from the experience because it’s just very awakening, you know?
And so I go back to that trip because it was just such an eye opening experience and bringing it back home to kind of our world and the culture we experience in more of the westernized world is that we are disconnected and we’re out of alignment and the women I talked to almost daily, they’re not feeling aligned where they work. They don’t feel aligned in their relationships. They don’t feel that community and connection and they don’t have that connection with themselves. And then we wonder why we’re dealing with all these health issues and chronic stress and anxiety and that the majority of the population is living in chronic fight or flight.
Well, we’re just not in alignment with ourselves. And so I see any sort of healing crisis or flare up as really an invitation to connect on a deeper level with yourself. And I used to fear them. I used to be so mad at my body and everything when I experienced a flare up. So like this increase in symptoms, and then I realized, oh, this is actually an invitation for me to do the deeper work. This is an invitation for me to experience a greater level of healing. Am I going to choose to accept the invitation or am I going to shut it down and resist? And that is what I want to bring to you from this experience.
So in August, I was actually had been doing some myofascial work, which is something that I’ve been really wanting to do for a long time. Uh, it works so wonderfully alongside mind, body, spirit release work. So I’d love to encourage my clients and anybody doing mind, body, spirit release work if you can integrate this, it’s going to be really powerful. Since mind, body, spirit release really works on clearing, uh, on an energetic level, things that are stored within the fascia and emotions and things trapped in the tissues. And then I also use bioenergetics for this work as well.
So, and these are just imprinted frequency waters that work specifically on these as well and are customized. So all this to say, in this time period in August, you know, I was doing this myofascial work. I started just really noticing that I was at the beginning of a flare up and I’m like, okay, here we go. I gotta, I gotta support the detox pathways a little bit more. I was just feeling it coming because I found myself more angry or just irritable. I was just irritable. I felt like my libido was dropping a little bit, which is always a clue for me. And that I also just felt like I was just could feel like stress mounting. And I was like, okay, I need to slow down a little bit. And at the time, I kind of was, but I also wasn’t. I saw myself really, you know, there’s this cascade of events. And I found myself after a treatment just immediately starting to experience symptoms that I had not experienced in four or five years and it was a huge trigger for me.
I, just really, you know, the alarm bells went off in my mind. I was like, oh my gosh, you know, are all these symptoms coming back? I haven’t dealt with this in so long. You know what’s going on? And I knew it was connected to myofascial work so I knew that I was releasing things. And if there’s one thing that always sticks out in my mind, that is the quote that I hold on to during harder times is the only way out is through and it’s really true. The only way out is through. You understanding that on the other side of the discomfort is more health and resiliency can really just inspire, you know. And keep you in a higher vibrational state during kind of the lower times.
So, you know, I was experiencing these symptoms and it was really alarming because, you know, I knew I was going to be going on a vacation with my family in like two weeks after this started. I, you know, had my full on client schedule for the week. I was, you know, I had all the things and I had a couple of businesses that I was working really hard on. Some new things I had started, manifesting generator here. I’m always very clear that my human design leads me towards this. So, you know, I had this awareness of all these things that I was like, oh, I need to be doing these things. I need to be doing these things. And I was like, oh, there’s the lesson. Okay.
Like, am I going to show up as a new person to an old container, right? So that’s the old container for me, is pushing myself and hiding behind work and productivity so that I don’t have to feel. And I can feel validated and praised and loved and held, even when I feel like shit. And instead of going to these old things to validate my experience was like, I’m going to say, no. I’m going to rest and I’m not going to tell people why I’m resting. Like if they want to ask, fine, but I don’t owe anybody any explanation when it comes to how I show up and I’m like, I’m going to just honor my rest. I’m going to be a little bit slower.
I’m not going to do any of the things on my, my business checklist and I’m going to prioritize, and I prioritize self care daily anyways. But there was a couple of things I really wanted to prioritize on a brain, nervous system, detox, somatic level that I knew I needed to up the ante, you know, with, um, going through the flare up. And so I spent the time doing that and, you know, just allowing myself to just be. And knowing too, it’s funny how like the flare ups are always kind of like reminding you, hey, this is what you actually were needing and you were wanting, but you weren’t letting yourself have. In the sense that, you know, it was during that time. I was like, gosh, I haven’t really slowed down so much during the summer. And I was feeling kind of sad about it only in the aspect of, uh, we’re just kind of in a busier season as a family with just different things that we’re working on. And you know everybody has their own individual situation.
So there’s just a couple things that we’re really working hard on as a family right now and just you know that there’s seasons for that and seasons that you know, you have to increase what you’re doing or just kind of like, you know honing in on on your craft. And so I had this awareness that that’s the season we’re in but I was still kind of sad I was like, oh, you know I really haven’t gotten to do as much of the summer things that I love to do during the summer. And kind of just have my you know, have like a day that I’m just kind of not doing much, you know. And, um, so when the flare up presented itself, I was like, oh yeah, like that was kind of what I was subconsciously wanting, you know, and consciously really.
So it was during that time I really nurtured myself and I came to the flare up as a new person in that old container, just allowing, just loving on my body, just connecting with my body. Just giving it the care and attention that I knew it was seeking instead of resisting and you know doing ten times more and not getting all of that and wound up. I think it was I noticed while I was on the trip and then since the, the vacation we took, I didn’t deal with anything. It resolved itself, which is eventually what they do, right? Um, if you’ve experienced a flare up, you know, like that at some point it typically lessens. And giving yourself that support as you’re going through it is so important. But it was such a beautiful teacher for me because it showed me how much I had grown and just kind of like the shift.
And that’s what I want to give you guys today is an understanding of the shift and that shift is and to revisit what we started talking about towards the beginning of this episode, is that discomfort is necessary for healing. And I would love for that to be a conversation that happens more often when it comes to the healing space. I don’t see it at all in the holistic healing space. I don’t see it at all, really, with root cause healing, I mean, name every single wellness trend out there. I just don’t see it. I just don’t see it.
And I think that this is what’s actually really missing, is that discomfort is a requirement for us to step into exactly what we came here to do. And that’s going to look different for you than it is me. Maybe it doesn’t show up on a physical level for you, but still at the end of the day discomfort is that requirement, discomfort in a relationship, discomfort in finances, discomfort. Like what are you choosing to receive from that or where are you hiding in old patterns? Because I’m gonna tell you this, you’re continuing to hide in old patterns Is going to not get you anywhere new, right? Like it’s like being on this merry go round or cycle of doing the same things over and over again and then expecting different results. Like there’s a word for it, but we’re not going to go there.
You know, it’s just like, why would you do that? Why would you do that? So, what I want to encourage you today is to instead of resisting any of these negative or quote unquote “negative” things that come up instead of resisting and fighting back and highlighting it as like oh, this is what’s wrong with me. What if you shifted the conversation to hey, this is something I’m gonna pay attention to and I’m gonna learn about myself. I’m gonna connect with it. And I’m gonna allow myself to shift and transmute this, right? It’s like, a caterpillar knows that it can’t stay a caterpillar. It has to go through the metamorphosis of becoming a butterfly. It could stay a caterpillar. That’s not gonna work out so well. It needs to go through the process and it shifts and goes through a cocoon where it literally… shuts everything else out from the world.
Can you imagine if we just allowed ourselves that cocoon period and it didn’t take like a flare up to do it, you know? I’m curious for you what it would look like to give yourself that cocoon period and just the chance to transmute, to shift, and to know that you’re gonna come out on the other side as a damn butterfly. Like the best, the coolest thing, right? Like, and knowing that you had to be a little uncomfortable to get there. How would you view the discomfort? How would you shift how you respond to discomfort?
So that’s what I want to encourage you today with, I want you to get curious about your response to that discomfort, whether it be a flare up or something else in your life. And if you push it away or push it down. Or if you’re going to be taking a different approach, with courage and bravery and valor to be like, no, I’m, I’m digging into this. I’m, I’m ready to get uncomfortable because I know that it’s going to get me to exactly where I need to be. So I hope this can encourage you today, friends. And, uh, I just am always just so grateful for this community and everybody who is listening in and I love connecting with you. And so, I can’t wait to hear what your thoughts about this episode and I know that it is going to be producing some big shifts in your life. Thanks for listening.
